Foster Falls - Brick Church773 viewsTwo churches mentioned in Hannah Walton Sanders' Civil War era diary @ http://home.alltel.net/cjwalker/

A sign at the Old Brick Church states that the church was established in 1890, but that conflicts with her diary. I believe the congregation was established in 1890, but the building is much older and was more of a meeting house before being organized as a church.

Hannah Walton Sanders is connected with the Walton family for whom Walton's Furnace was named. Walton Furnace is located within a few hundred yards of Sanders Mine Road at it's intersection with Walton Furnace Road. Sander's Mine was operated by her husband.

groupatbethel.jpg772 viewsThis photo was taken at the Amos Parks farm in the Bethel community about 1915. According to my aunt, a version of it was published in The Declaration in Dec. 1963. I can ID a few people but most of them I don't know. I don't even know the occasion for the photograph. A cousin of mine has the original of this one and she has given me permission to share it out.

Mouth of Wilson - The Round House772 viewsThis house was built by Dan Idol in 1874. Although called the Round House it is actually octagonal. There was a mini-craze for octagonal houses in the mid-19th century. This is apparently the only one in Grayson County. Photo by Jeff Weaver, June 8, 2007.
