Montgomery County, Virginia

Montgomery County was created from Fincastle County on 31 Dec 1776. (Note that Fincastle County was disbanded at this time and split into Montgomery, Washington, and Kentucky Counties.)

Montgomery lost land to form counties that are now in West Virginia as well as several of the Virginia counties in the New River area.

The Montgomery County courthouse in Christiansburg houses records for Montgomery County and the early records for those areas that were later split from Montgomery. Fincastle records are also stored here.
