wellfields51973.jpg687 viewsTHE PONDS WERE LOW AND LOOKING RAGGED FROM ABOVE IN MAY OF '73. NOTICE THE SMALL PONDS WHERE THE SOFTBALL FIELD IS NOW LOCATED. THERE IS AN OLD WELL HEAD CLOSE TO SECOND BASE ON THE SOFTBALL FIELD. WE UNCOVERED IT IN 1978 WHEN WE GRADED FOR THE SOFTBALL FIELD. IT WAS COVERED BY A SQUARE PLATE. WE DROPPED ROCKS DOWN THE PIPE AND HEARD SPLASHES. WE PUT THE PLATE BACK OVER IT...COVERED IT AND FINISHED THE FIELD. NO BIG DEAL. Courtesy of Don Smith dsmith1043@comcast.net

Foster Falls - Brick Church686 viewsTwo churches mentioned in Hannah Walton Sanders' Civil War era diary @ http://home.alltel.net/cjwalker/

A sign at the Old Brick Church states that the church was established in 1890, but that conflicts with her diary. I believe the congregation was established in 1890, but the building is much older and was more of a meeting house before being organized as a church.

Hannah Walton Sanders is connected with the Walton family for whom Walton's Furnace was named. Walton Furnace is located within a few hundred yards of Sanders Mine Road at it's intersection with Walton Furnace Road. Sander's Mine was operated by her husband.
