CBdeerhunting.jpg1337 viewsMy grandfather was born in 1889 and in this picture he looks to be in his 40s at most, so I guess this scene was in the 1930s, and though he had lived in Maryland since 1920, this hunting party probably was "back home" because his brother Dent and, according to an aunt, his nephew Glenn Kilby, both Ashe Countians, are in the picture. I send this, thinking you might recognize the other hunters. To identify those I know: at deer's hindquarters with gun over shoulder--Charles Bradley Pennington, second from right, Dent Pennington; far right, Glenn Kilby. Littlewoodcarsocks.jpg977 viewsThe Littlewood's first car, which would take them as far north as Providence, RI, visiting their East Coast relatives during the 1920s, was purchased with profits from their government contract for making woolen socks for the army during WW I. Jack Littlewood, the only son of Herbert and Hannah Haigh Littlewood, apparently festooned the new machine with socks as a tribute. How DID they drive on those roads!?!?
