George Folk, originally from southeastern Virginia moved to Watauga County before the Civil War. During the war he raised a regiment known as the 6th North Carolina Cavalry, or 65th North Carolina State Troops. After the Civil War he practiced and taught law in Lenoir, Caldwell County, NC.
