New River Notes, a leading genealogy resource for the New River Valley of North Carolina and Virginia, launched its new look website today.

new river valley mapNew River Notes was originally launched in 1998 by Jeffery C. Weaver providing New River Valley researchers with a new wealth of information and that tradition is continued today by the Grayson County, Virginia Heritage Foundation, Inc.

Piney Creek Primitive Baptist Church361 viewsThe church which met at this place was organized in 1825, and closed in 1980. After the church closed the building was deeded to the Piney Creek Garden Club, who now maintain the structure. This building was constructed in 1875. Photo April 16, 2006 by Jeff Weaver.

I found an old Higgins Cemetery on Crab Creek Road, Alleghany Co NC and some of the old stones had odd shapes. Some looked like a petrified slab of wood while others had shapes I had not seen before.
