New River Notes, a leading genealogy resource for the New River Valley of North Carolina and Virginia, launched its new look website today.

new river valley mapNew River Notes was originally launched in 1998 by Jeffery C. Weaver providing New River Valley researchers with a new wealth of information and that tradition is continued today by the Grayson County, Virginia Heritage Foundation, Inc.

Piney Creek Primitive Baptist Church360 viewsThe church which met at this place was organized in 1825, and closed in 1980. After the church closed the building was deeded to the Piney Creek Garden Club, who now maintain the structure. This building was constructed in 1875. Photo April 16, 2006 by Jeff Weaver.

South Fork Regular Baptist Church, Piney Creek269 viewsThis congregation was organized in 1840. The church divided in the 1860s over the Civil War, with the other faction styling itself Primitive Baptist. The Primitive Baptist faction had a meeting house on the Ashe County side of the South Fork. This congregation closed about 1960, and that meeting house has gone to ruin.
