Tumbling Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery

Washington County, Virginia

Location: Located next to the Tumbling Creek Primitive Baptist Church on Poor Valley Road in Washington County, Virginia.

Submitted by: Jeff Weaver

Comments: The Cemetery dates to at least 1859, perhaps earlier. This section of Washington County was a haven for moonshiners during prohibition. Oral tradition relates that these people took grave stones from the cemetery to blockade the road to impede the law enforcement officers. As a result only a few of the graves are identifiable. It is obvious that there would be over 100 graves located here.
