Thomas Theodore McNeer, M.D.

THOMAS THEODORE MCNEER, M. D. A graduate in medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, Doctor McNeer for ten years has carried an increasing burden of professional duties in the community of Dante, Russell County, Virginia.

Doctor McNeer was born at Hunter Springs, Monroe County, West Virginia, September 7, 1888, and is of Scotch ancestry. His grandfather was a farmer of Monroe County, where he spent practically all his life. His birthplace was at Salt Sulphur Springs, while he died at Hunter Springs. Henry P. McNeer, father of Doctor McNeer, was born at Salt Sulphur Springs and died at Hunter Springs, his birth occurring in 1851 and his death in 1889. He was a successful farmer, a stanch republican in politics and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. His wife, Eliza C. Hunter, was born at Charleston, West Virginia., in 1852, and now lives at the home of her son, Dr. L. C. McNeer, at Dante, Virginia. She was the mother of five children: George Perris, a farmer at Lowry, Bedford County, Virginia; Arthur H., who is in the coal business at Richlands, Virginia; Dr. Lewis C., a graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Baltimore, and a practicing physician and surgeon at Dante, Virginia; Dewey, who died when eighteen years old; and Thomas Theodore.

Thomas Theodore McNeer attended the public schools of Monroe County, West Virginia. He was only one year old when his father died. He finished his literary education at Marshall College in Huntington where he graduated in 1907, and subsequently entered the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, taking his Doctor of medicine degree in 1913. he is a meniber of the Phi Chi medical fraternity. Doctor McNeer has kept in close touch with the advancing progress of medicine and surgery, and in 1921 took a special course in bone surgery in the New York Post-Graduate Medical College. Soon after graduating he began practice at Dante in 1913, and in addition to his private practice acts as assistant surgeon for the Clinchfield Coal Corporation. He is a member of the Russell County Medical Society, the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Medical Association.

Doctor McNeer is a republican, is a past master of Clinchfield Lodge No. 256, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; as member of Castlewood Chapter No. 34, Royal Arch Masons; Cyreno Commandery No. 21, Knights Templar; and Acca Temple of the Mystic Shrine at Richmond. On April 15, 1914, at Huntington, West Virginia, Doctor McNeer married Miss Delta Crouch, daughter of Charles N. and Alice (Wilson) Crouch, residents of Huntington. Her father is an Honored physician of that city. Mrs. McNeer finished her education in Marshall College at Huntington. They have two children: Alice Elise, now attending public schools of Dante, and Thomas Theodore, Jr.
