Smith Brooks Family Cemetery
Grayson County, Virginia
Location: West of Troutdale near Smyth County line
Directions: From Route 16 at the Smyth County line proceed west on Homestead Road (Rt 741) past the Comers Creek Baptist Church and the Watson Cemetery (visible from the road). Park at the next parking area after the cemetery and proceed up the hill to the right via the trail which provides access to the Iron Mountain Trail. (There is a gate across the access trail and vehicle traffic is prohibited.) At the intersection with the Iron Mountain Trail turn left (west) and continue up the hill. The cemetery is on the far side of the clearing left (south) of the trail shortly before the top of the ridge.
GPS Coordinates: N36.7103611 W81.4928888
Surveyed by: Ginger Ballard in December 2001
Comments: In addition to the listed burials there appeares to be other graves which were unmarked or marked only with field stones.
The cemetery is newly fenced but covered with ground cover and briars which make identification of other graves difficult. This cemetery may be difficult to see from the trail. The “clearning” may now be overgrown. A GPS device may be a good aid in finding this cemetery.
