Silas T. Yeatts, M.D.

SILAS T. YEATTS, M. D. A native of Virginia, Doctor Yeatts was for several years a competent physician in Louisville, Kentucky, later in Tennessee, and recently has established himself in practice at Floyd Courthouse, where he is proprietor of the Floyd Hospital.

Doctor Yeatts was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, July 16, 1888. He is of Scotch-Irish ancestry, the Yeatts family having come from Ireland to Virginia in Colonial times. His grandfather Yeatts was a lifelong resident of Pittsylvania County, a farmer and slave holder. Thomas Alfred Yeatts, father of Doctor Yeatts, was born in Pittsylvania County in 1850, was reared and married there and was engaged in business as a farmer and dry goods merchant until 1889, when he removed to Pizarro in Floyd County, where he still resides. He continues the operation of his extensive farming interests in that section. He is a republican in politics. Thomas A. Yeatts married Fannie P. Cook, who was born in Pittsylvania County in 1870 and died at Pizarro in 1910. They had eight children: Dr. Silas T.; J. Cook, a farmer at Floyd; Mae, wife of Dr. James H. Hester, a physician and surgeon at Louisville, Kentucky; Pearl, who married Lester Graham, a farmer at Pizarro; and the four younger children, all on the home farm with their father, are Clella, Ethel, Alfred and Edwin.

Silas T. Yeatts was educated in public and private schools in Floyd County, graduating from the Pizarro High School. For two years he attended Willis Academy and also spent two years at the Botetourt Normal College at Daleville. Doctor Yeatts in 7906 entered the University College of Medicine at Richmond, and after two years transferred his studies to the University of Tennessee Medical School at Memphis. He was graduated Doctor of Medicine in 1910, and then located at Louisville, where he had an extensive experience in the Louisville City Hospital during 1911-13 and was engaged in private practice in that city until 1917. From 1917 until July, 1922, Doctor Yeatts was surgeon of the Hospital of the Mengel Company at Mengelwood, Tennessee. Leaving there, he came to Floyd Courthouse, and after building up a general medical and surgical practice, established in June, 1923, the Floyd Hospital He owns this modern hospital building, thoroughly equipped, find since its opening it has furnished a, splendid hospital service for Floyd and surrounding counties.

Doctor Yeatts is independent in politics. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Floyd Lodge No. 229, Ancient Free and Accepted ,Masons, find belongs to the Southern Medical Association, the Southwestern Virginia Medical Society and is one of the aggressive younger men in his profession in Southwestern Virginia.

On March 16, 1910, at Louisville, he married Miss Maricita Peak, daughter of Dr. J. Hunter and Stella (Thurman) Peak. Her father is a Louisville surgeon. Her mother is now deceased. Doctor and Mrs. Yeatts have four children: Hunter, born in 1913; Jack, born in 191 5; Irvin, born in 1917; and Frances, born in 1920.
