Comments: This cemetery predates Potato Creek United Methodist Church, which was established in 1865 with the oldest marked grave being that of Mary A. Halsey who died 8 Oct 1845. The cemetery contains an old section of graves marked only by field stones; this section is said to be a slave cemetery. The church is no longer active but was part of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. This listing also includes information from a 1994-1995 survey by Stella Todd and Emma Phipps.
