CB&Q Engine684 viewsCB&Q ENGINE 4960 WAS PUT INTO EXCURSION WORK IN 1958, RETIRED TO CIRCUS WORLD MUSEUM IN 1966 THEN DONATED TO THE MID-CONTINENT RAILWAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM IN NORTH FREEDOM, WISCONSIN. IN 1980, 4960 WAS LEASED TO THE BRISTOL AND NORTH WESTERN RAILROAD.

BUILT IN AUGUST OF 1923 BY BALDWIN LOCOMOTIVE WORKS, CB&Q ENGINE 4960 HAD BEEN SPARED THE TORCH AND WAS DOING EXCURSION WORK FOR THE BRISTOL AND NORTH WESTERN RAILROAD FROM BRISTOL TO BENHAMS, VA. IN THE SUMMER OF 1981. THE VENTURE PLAYED OUT AND IN 1985 4960 WAS MOVED TO FT. WAYNE, INDIANA.

IT WAS PURCHASED BY THE GRAND CANYON RAILWAY SHORTLY THEREAFTER. AFTER ONE OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE REBUILDING EVER DONE ON AN OLD STEAM LOCOMOTIVE, COSTING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, ENGINE 4960 WAS PLACED IN SERVICE BY GRAND CANYON RAILWAY AND HAS BEEN DOING EXCURSION WORK SINCE THE MID 1990'S.
