Saltville - Decommisining of Olin May 1972896 viewsTHESE ROTARY DRIERS ROTATED AND DRYED THE SODA ASH AND MOST OF THE TIME THERE WAS A SNOWSTORM OF ASH COMING FROM AROUND IT FILLING THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH. THE ASH THAT LEAKED OUT WOULD BE SHOVELED UP AND ROLLED BY WHEELBARROW TO THE DIRTY ASH POT, COOKED AND SENT TO THE CAUSTIC SHED.

Helton Creek895 viewsThis photograph was made in the summer of 2005 by Jeff Weaver, and shows Helton Creek near its headwaters on Whitetop Mountain. It was reported that there was gold found in these creeks in 1897. You can read about it in C. R. Boyd's 1897 book on Grayson County Geology
