Helton Jitney928 viewsThis one was in my aunt Lola Kilby Sewell's photo album. She moved to Harford County, MD, with her family (Roby and Eva Kilby family) in 1915 but returned to the mountains in the early 1920s to get her teaching degree from Boone. This photo caught my eye because this apparently was a mode of public transportation, presumably from Helton to Boone. I don't know that there was a "bus" from Harford County to Helton at that point. Later there was bus service from Bel Air to Sparta, I believe. She must have taken the train from Harford County to Boone. If you have any knowledge of this jitney, I'd like to know the facts. That's could be Aunt Lola on the left but I'm not positive. Courtesy of Emily Kilby erk44@verizon.net
