Littlewoodproperty1900a.jpg
Littlewoodproperty1900a.jpg740 viewsThis picture was probably taken between 1900 and 1905. The mill, built around the turn of the century to replace the burned mill belonging to the Perkins family, was bought by John Littlewood, an immigrant from
Yorkshire, England. In about 1900 his son Herbert Littlewood joined his father in the business. The mill is the long building at the center bottom. The two story building facing it was a general store. The two
cottages were the Littlewoods' residences. The Victorian house upper left was the Perkins's home.

sturgillfranciscabin.jpg
sturgillfranciscabin.jpg738 viewsThis photo made in the late 1970s shows the cabin of Francis Sturgill, Jr. and Phebe Weaver Sturgill. It is located on Helton Creek, about a quarter mile from the Virginia line in Ashe County, NC. Francis Sturgill (1782-1842) was the son of Francis Sturgill, Sr. and Rebecca Hash. Phebe Weaver 1783-1855 was the daughter of William Weaver, Sr. and his first wife, who was a daughter of Moses McDaniel.

sturgillsjpg.jpg737 viewsThis picture had the inscription "taken from behind Aunt Callie's house" on it. It's the view of the Sturgill's community facing the road to Lansing (Rt. 194?) and was taken in about 1930, I'd guess. My recollection of recent visits is that the view hasn't changed all that much. Callie Pennington was married to I.R. Kilby (second marriages for both). I believe their son Glenn inherited this property and his son Terry continues to live there. Photo courtesy of Emily Kilby
