Old Elk Creek Cemetery

Grayson County, Virginia

Location: Elk Creek

Directions: From the junction of Elk Creek Pky (US 21) and Comers Rock Rd (Rt 658) the cemetery is about 0.4 mile west on Comers Rock Rd at the northeast corner with Valley View Rd (Rt 659).

GPS Coordinates: N36.721958 W81.177231

Surveyed by: Susan Taylor Woodson 27 May 2001; updated by Paul and Bette Nelson and Ginger Ballard 10 May 2009

Comments: The cemetery is mown but no other maintenance seems to be ongoing. Probably half of the stones are broken and/or fallen. Of those still upright, many are encased in lichens. Many graves are unmarked. This cemetery is unusual in that some of the stones date back to the 1850s and 1860s. This cemetery is in dire need of some restoration.Genealogical information was provided by Susan Taylor Woodson, Mary Taylor Harrington, and Bette Nelson. Additional information comes from an undated survey done by Paul Herndon et al in the early 1990s.
