Matthew Dickey Cemetery
Grayson County, Virginia
Location: Independence
Directions: This cemetery is on the Oscar Smith farm at 475 Peach Bottom Road. From Independence go north on N. Independence Ave (US 21) and then turn right on Peach Bottom Rd (Rt 654). At 475 proceed down the lane around the hill to the farm house. The cemetery is not visible from the house. It lies on a hill in a pasture beyond the house overlooking Peach Bottom Creek.

Surveyed by: The cemetery was surveyed 24 Mar 2004 by James Smith and Rich and Ginger Ballard. It had been surveyed in spring 1972 by Helen C. Bryant and Louise C. Phipps.
Comments: This cemetery is unfenced and overgrown with trees and brush and all stones have fallen and many are broken. There are several graves marked only by field stones and an indeterminate number of unmarked graves.In the 1972 survey they found 9 marked graves and 15 unmarked. In 2004 we found a 10th foot stone but two headstones found in 1972 were no longer visible.
