John Riley Pool Cemetery

Grayson County, Virginia

Location: North of U.S. 58 between Independence and Galax

Directions: From the junction of Grayson Parkway (U.S. 58) and Old Ferry Rd (Rt 641) go north on Old Ferry Rd and Moore House Rd (Rt 631) about 2 miles to Scale House Rd (Rt 635). These two graves are in the edge of a wooded area, beside an abandoned road bed that joined the land of John Riley Pool and his cousin William Pascal Pool. In the old records this area was known as Island Ford. The graves are located near the old Boyer Ferry Road, 0.3 mile from the entrance gate to the New River Haven, at the end Scale House Road.

Comments: The cemetery is in very poor condition. The current owner of the property found the graves and told me about them. He said that he plans to replace the fence and preserve the cemetery.
