Burton’s Chapel Cemetery

Grayson County, Virginia

Location:  In national forest west of Flatridge Rd near Smyth County line.

Directions:  Off Flatridge Rd (Rt 601) near the Smyth County line and forest road FR 49340. From Flatridge Rd drive 1/4 mile along the forest road and park beside the locked gate. At this point the cemetery is 3/4 of a mile west, but it’s a hike of 1 1/2 miles along the forest road to get to the cemetery. The cemetery is on the right (north) side of the trail and can be seen easily from it.

Comments:  Although this cemetery has been identified in several sources as the Burton’s Chapel Cemetery we have doubts that it was ever associated with the church of that name. It is almost 1.5 miles staight line distance and probably over a 2 mile walk from this cemetery to the current church location.
