Bourne Slave Cemetery
Grayson County, Virginia
Location: Spring Valley
Directions: Leave Rt. 805 (Spring Valley Road) at Rt. 651 (Lonesome Oak Road) and travel .5 miles to the cemetery. Cemetery is on the left, directly beside the roadway.
GPS Coordinates: N36.71954 W081.04921
Surveyed by: Buford C. Wilson May 2008
Comments: The cemetery has a fence, but it seems to be abandoned. It is overgrown with grass and briars. Only 2 graves have engraved markers. There are at least 13 graves marked with fieldstones and there are possibly others hidden in the grass. By tradition this was originally a slave cemetery for the Bourne Family. Later it was used by several black families including the Young family and members of the Taylor’s Chapel Church.
