Grayson County, Virginia Personal Property Tax List — 1805

Transcribed by Jeffrey C. Weaver, May 1998

John Hills, Commissioner of Revenue signed this tax list, which reports 911 “white tythes”, 8 blacks under 16 and 80 over 16. These slaves were taxed at a rate of .44 each. There were 1571 horses listed at a rate of .12 each.

It should also be noted that some families listed in earlier and later tax lists, and presumably should be in Grayson County at the time, are not listed.
