This data was transcribed from the death records of Grayson County, Virginia. It contains over 800 records from the Grayson County, Virginia death registers from 1853 to 1870. Original spellings have been retained as much a possible. There are without doubt transcription errors due to both difficulties in decipering handwriting and disconnects between brain and fingers. Also, accuracy of the entries in the register deteriorated significantly in the late 1860s.

In the case of most slave deaths no surname was recorded and as a substitute the surname of the owner is shown in square brackets[]. This is not intended to indicate use of this surname but rather to provide a possible indication of the location of the family within the county.
