New River Notes — Complete

January 21, 2014

After about two years of work we have completed a major upgrade to New River Notes. On January 21, 2014 we switched in the last of the updated files and final page revisions.

In January 2013 we introduced the new site layout but because there were many pages left to do there was a big red Under Construction on the front page. A year later we've finished all of the pages that were on the original site. Construction is complete. We have a great looking site full of material to help you in your research and possibly entertain you.

We're not finished. A site like this can't just freeze in time. It must be maintained, .... Read More

Wright Cemetery

Grayson County, Virginia

Location: Near Old Town

Directions: This small family cemetery is in a pasture on the old Wright home place. The farm is off Waterwheel Road (Rt. 634) at the end of Rolling Wood Lane (Rt. 774).

GPS Coordinates: N36.67205 W80.97440

Surveyed by: Buford C. Wilson and Hope B. Taylor; completed 5 Mar 2002, updated 27 Mar 2008

Comments: The cemetery is quite old. There are several members of the Wright family buried here, but not all of the graves are marked. Family tradition is that the first person buried here was "Jennie" Williams. Tradition has it that she wanted to be buried in the strawberry patch. Jennie may have been the daughter of Henry and Sarah (Kinworthy) Williams, and a sister to Mary "Polly" (Williams) Wright, but there are no records to prove it. On an earlier visit to the cemetery I found a soapstone marker with the date "July 30 1864", but could not find it on this visit. It is the oldest marker in the cemetery and may be her stone. The cemetery is in good condition and has a good fence.
