New River Notes — Complete

January 21, 2014

After about two years of work we have completed a major upgrade to New River Notes. On January 21, 2014 we switched in the last of the updated files and final page revisions.

In January 2013 we introduced the new site layout but because there were many pages left to do there was a big red Under Construction on the front page. A year later we've finished all of the pages that were on the original site. Construction is complete. We have a great looking site full of material to help you in your research and possibly entertain you.

Baywood Methodist Church Cemetery

Grayson County, Virginia

Location:  Baywood

Directions:  From Baywood Store Rd (Rt 624) go west on Old Baywood Road (Rt 626). This small cemetery is behind a residence at 3613 Old Baywood Road.

GPS Coordinates:  N36.60768 W81.01736

Surveyed by:  Buford C. Wilson; updated 14 Apr 2008

Comments:  At one time the Baywood Methodist Church stood here. The church, which was built in 1886, was founded by James Henry Kyle, Alexander Cox, and Dr. Staley E Young. By tradition, the church was torn down a short time after the death of Dr. Young, who was killed in an accident on 9 Jan 1914. The cemetery is surrounded by a small fence and is mowed by the present owner. There are only 2 graves with marked stones. There is one grave marked with a fieldstone and it appears that two or more graves may have been moved elsewhere. By tradition three members of the Kyle Family were buried here and when the land was sold and subdivided in the 1970’s, the remains were moved. The remains of James H. Kyle, his wife Luella, and four of their children have been moved to the Felts Memorial Cemetery. GPS coordinates for the Kyle graves are N 36.68071 W080.09032. I haven’t been able to determine which members were originally buried here.
