INTRODUCTION

The minutes of the Grayson County Pension Board are of little use in and of themselves, however when combined with other information, may yield some information of historical or genealogical importance.

Every effort to make an accurate transcript of these minutes has been taken. In addition, information in brackets [] has been added by the transcriber in an attempt to make this record more useful for research. The reader is invited to make comments and forward them to:

MINUTES OF THE GRAYSON CONFEDERATE PENSION BOARD

Virginia. At a meeting of the Confederate Pension Board held for Grayson County at the Clerk’s Office of the County of Grayson on the 14 day of April 1900. Present C[olumbus] Phipps, G. L. Delph & M. W. Warren, who having first been duly sworn, organized by electing C. Phipps, Chairman, W. M. Warren, Clerk of said board.

After investigation the claims of the following named persons who have heretofore been drawing pensions from the state of Va. to wit:

Were approved at the same amounts heretofore allowed and paid them, except H. T. Bennett whose claim is approved for the sum of $60.00 pursuant to a special act of the Legislature of Virginia approved on the day of ___ 1900. The following names are ordered to be stricken from the pension roll to wit: Joel Kirby, decd, Surphina Pool, decd, Lydia J. Pinnion, decd, Thomas Jennings who holds a county office the fees of which amounts to over $300.00.

The Board further approved and recommend the payment of $25.00 per annum to Catherine Stone who is totally blind and destitute of property.

Ordered that this board be adjourned until the 2nd day of June next. C. Phipps.

Virginia At a meeting of the Confederate Pension Board for Grayson County at the Clerk’s Office of the County of Grayson on the 28th day of April 1902 appointed a pension board of Commissioners for the said county of Grayson as provided by law, held at the Court House of Grayson County, in the Clerk’s Office of the said court on the 15 day of May 1902.
