Comments: The cemetery is very old and has fallen into neglect. This hardly seems fitting for the final resting place of one of the most prominent families of their time. Thomas Blair was of Scottish descent. In the Revolutionary War, as a Tory Captain, he was wounded and left for dead on a battlefield in North Carolina, but he survived and settled in this area in the 1780’s.Thomas Blair was a very prosperous and influential man. For several years his son, John Blair, and his son in law, Greenberry George McKenzie, served in the Virginia State Legislature. Family tradition has it that Thomas and his wife Mary are buried here, but their markers have been lost. Several graves in the cemetery are marked with fieldstones. At one time, fieldstone markers surrounded the cemetery. Slaves were buried there. Information in [brackets] is not on the stone.
