New River Notes — Complete

January 21, 2014

After about two years of work we have completed a major upgrade to New River Notes. On January 21, 2014 we switched in the last of the updated files and final page revisions.

In January 2013 we introduced the new site layout but because there were many pages left to do there was a big red Under Construction on the front page. A year later we've finished all of the pages that were on the original site. Construction is complete. We have a great looking site full of material to help you in your research and possibly entertain you.

New River Notes

New River Notes, a leading genealogy resource for the New River Valley of North Carolina and Virginia, launched its new look website today.

new river valley mapNew River Notes was originally launched in 1998 by Jeffrey C. Weaver providing New River Valley researchers with a new wealth of information and that tradition is continued today by the Grayson County, Virginia Heritage Foundation, Inc.

New River Baptist Church — 1979

Weaver's Ford, Ashe County, North Carolina

New River Baptist Church was organized in 1891 by D. W. Thomason and J. F. Fletcher Charter members were: John J. Garvey, Matilda J. Garvey, Mary Phipps, Martha Phipps and Martha Pollard.

The Church is located near New River at Weaver's Ford. The original building still houses the congregation. Repairs and additional room have been added during the years. The wooden church building which once rested on stone pillars has been bricked, and a basement added f or the purpose of Sunday School rooms. The Church has recently built a picnic shelter and paved the parking lot.

Rev. Jimmy Warden now [1979] serves as pastor. Former pastors include: Rev. G. L. Trivett, Rev. J. D. Spencer, Rev. W. T. Whitdngton, Rev. W. H. Caldwell, Rev. Buford Hash, Rev. J. R. Shumate: Rev. Roe Pasley and Rev. Fred E. Jennings.

Mrs. Jaylene Warden is the present clerk and treasurer. Former clerks have been as follows: W. D. Brown, G. H. Pugh and Ann Huffman.
