New River Notes, a leading genealogy resource for the New River Valley of North Carolina and Virginia, launched its new look website today.

new river valley mapNew River Notes was originally launched in 1998 by Jeffery C. Weaver providing New River Valley researchers with a new wealth of information and that tradition is continued today by the Grayson County, Virginia Heritage Foundation, Inc.

CBdeerhunting.jpg816 viewsMy grandfather was born in 1889 and in this picture he looks to be in his 40s at most, so I guess this scene was in the 1930s, and though he had lived in Maryland since 1920, this hunting party probably was "back home" because his brother Dent and, according to an aunt, his nephew Glenn Kilby, both Ashe Countians, are in the picture. I send this, thinking you might recognize the other hunters. To identify those I know: at deer's hindquarters with gun over shoulder--Charles Bradley Pennington, second from right, Dent Pennington; far right, Glenn Kilby.
