CBdeerhunting.jpg1541 viewsMy grandfather was born in 1889 and in this picture he looks to be in his 40s at most, so I guess this scene was in the 1930s, and though he had lived in Maryland since 1920, this hunting party probably was "back home" because his brother Dent and, according to an aunt, his nephew Glenn Kilby, both Ashe Countians, are in the picture. I send this, thinking you might recognize the other hunters. To identify those I know: at deer's hindquarters with gun over shoulder--Charles Bradley Pennington, second from right, Dent Pennington; far right, Glenn Kilby. His father was Richard "Dick" Sidden of Wilkes County who later (Monroe was in his twenties) married Cynthia. Monroe married Myrtle Jane Rector the daughter of Abe and Martha Brackins, Rector. Ther had three children, Emma , Carpenter, Mary Ann Todd and Johnny Caudill who married my aunt Rose Emma Medley. Monroe would sit on the porch of his house at "Teapot Dome" Alleghany County, NC and play his banjo for passers by. Courtesy

ingramjohnc.jpg1486 viewsJohn Calvin Ingram (1842-1918) served in Company A 26th NC in the Confederate Army. Charity Ann Farmer (1844-1920) was the daughter of Wilson Farmer and Susan Wyatt. They lived on Haw Orchard Mountain, Grayson County, VA, and are buried in the Haw Orchard Baptist Church Cemetery. Common rumour has it she was a witch.
