Sister Hattie Ashley was born March 1, 1902 and departed this life Feburary 11, 1920, making her stay here on earth 17 years 11 mos. And 10 days.
She professed a hope in Christ at the age of 16 yrs and lived a consistent member until death. She leaves a father, mother, 5 brothers and 6 sisters to mourn her loss. But we trust our loss is her eternal gain.
Dear Hatti's last words were singing: "Don't You Want to Go to that Happy Home on High where the good shall meet? Yest meet to part no more and shall live and reign above the starry skies, mother, father, brothers, sisters, don't you want to go where sad partings will be no more." Sister says, Don't you want togo to that home on high? Says sweet Jesus has put this song in my mouth and I must sing it.
The saddest loss is at home: the house is so lonely without dear Hattie, it is almost more than we can bear but may we all live so that when death comes for us that we may go to live with dear Hattie and sweet Jesus where there will be no more sad partings, but will be happiness throughout endless eternity.
In memory of brother J. P. Walker. Was born March 9, 1835 Departed this life November 26, 1920, age 85 years.
He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Baptist church at Big Ivy 10 years ago and lived a consistent member until death.
He leaves 8 children to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate father, and we hope their loss is his eternal gain. He has a companion and 3 children gone on before him. We hope they will all meet around God's throne where there will be no more sad parting. -- C. C. Beshears.
Rebecca Miller, was born April 5, 1841. Deceased Nov. 19, 1920 making her stay on earth 79 years 7 months and 14 days.
She joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Roans Creek. Later she moved her membership to Poplar Cove church Nov. 28, 1895.
She was the mother of 4 children, 3 boys and one girl. All are living. She honored her profession and served her church as Deaconess for a number of years.
We hope our loss is her eternal gain. Children prepare to meet mother in heaven.
J. M. Sheets was born Oct. 4, 1851, died March 10, 1921, making his stay on earth 70 years, 5 months and 6 days.
He joined the church at Poplar Cove Aug. 15, 1889 and lived his profession until death.
Children, wife, and friends our loss, we hope, is his eternal gain.
Verdie Miller, wife of Roy Miller, was born Sept. 29, 1897, died March 4, 1921, making her stay on earth 24 years 5 months and 4 days. She claimed a home in early age and joined the chruch at Gap Field and later moved her membership to Pine Ridge and remained until death.
Her remains was laid to rest on Sunday in the family cemtery.
Her funderal was conducted by Elder David Roten and C. C. Burgess in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing friends.
In memory of Piner Church.
Piner Woody Church was born July 13, 1892, died Jan. 9, 1923.
She joined the church at Blue Ridge in 1916 and live a devoted Christian till death. She was married to Thomas Church and to this union were born 6 children, 3 dead, 3 living. She also leaves a husband, father, mother, 3 brothers and 1 sister to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother, a dutiful daughter, and loving sister. Weep not relatives and friends for we believe that her spirit is sweetly resting in the paradise of God, but be ready when death shall come for you, that you can go to live with dear Piner throughout endless eternity.
In memory of brother Charlies Parsons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Parsons. He was bornJuly 8, 1902, departed this life Dec. 16, 1922, making his stay here on earth 21 yrs 5 mos and 7 days.
He professed a hope in Christ and joined the church at Poplar Cove about five years ago and lived a consistent member till death.
Mother don't grieve over me for the house is full of bright angels.
The day before he died he took his mother, two brothers and his little nephew in his arms, kissed them and told them "Good bye."
We trust that father, mother, two brothers and sister will all prepare to meet brother Charlie where there will be no more sad parting.
He leaves a father, mother, two brothers and one sister to mourn his loss but we trust our loss is his eternal gain.
In memory of sister Flora Phillips.
Flora Watson Phillips was born Sept. 30, 1891, died Mch. 31, 1923.
Joined the church at Blue Ridge and lived a devoted Christian till death. She married Shober Phillips to this union were born five children, one girl, and four boys, all living. She also leaves a kind husband, a dear old mother, two brothers, one sister and a host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss of dear Flora. Words cannot express how we miss her but no one misses here like Shober, the dear old mother and her darling little children. What is home without a mother? It is a sad vacated place the world can never fill.
Dear Flora was kind to every one she met and always met them with a smile. We know we can never see her again on earth, but may we live such pure lives that when we are called away from earth that we may go to live with Flora and all the redeemed of earth, and best of all, with Jesus throughout endless eternity.
Bro. Gordon McGuire was born Oct. 21, 1857; died Sept. 9, 1925.
He professed a hope in Christ and joined the church at Yellow Hill when young, late moving his membership to Blue Ridge and then to Big Ivey where he remained a faithful member till death.
He was an ordained minister and was faithful in his calling. The gainsayer could not truthfully say any harm of Brother McGuire.
He married Ruth Spears. To this union were born three children--two girls and one boy--all living. He leaves a wife, three children and one brother and a host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss of Bro. McGuire.
He suffered intense pain before he died but he bore it with patience. He is gone to where there is no sickness, pain nor death, for we believe his spirit is sweetly resting in the paradise of God.
Martha Greer, daughter of Wm. And Jane Greer was born Oct. 14, 1865; died May 27, 1925.
She was married to Jos. W. Calloway Jan 1. 1886. To this union were born 12 children, tow of whom, Cordelia and Floy, died in childhood. She is survived by her husband and ten children: Misses Belva and Clara Calloway, Mrs. E. B. Parsons, Mrs. J. C. Miller, Mrs. R. A. Wellborn, Mrs. M. A. Beshears and Messrs B. H., L. M., J. B., and R. S. Calloway, also by four sisters and one brother.
In her young womanhood, Mrs. Calloway professed a hope in Christ as her Saviour and united with the Baptist church at Yellow Hill; later moving her membership to Blue Ridge church of which she was a faithful member until her death.
She relied on Bible reading and prayer as a source of comfort and strength; and often said she believed her prayers for others would live after she was gone.
As a wife and mother, she lived a life of unselfish service, asking no reaward but the comfort and well-being of her family.
As a friend and neighbor, she was kind and generous.
She often said she was ready for the summons, and when it came, she slipped quietly out "as one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams."
Samuel Griffin was born October 18, 1890; died October 24, 1926. He married Amanda Parsons Sept. 15, 1912. To this union were born six children, all of whom new survive.
Sam professed a hope in Christ and joined the Baptist church at Big Ivey at about 20 years of age and lived a consistent member until death. In his death the wife lost a good husband, the children a kind father, and the church a good member. He often prayed in public. His godly walk on earth is evidence that he is gone to the Paradise of God. - J. M. Parsons
Mrs. Millie Riddle Benge Born 1832; died Mch 3, 1928, being about 96 years old.
She married Henry Benge. To this union were born 3 children, 2 girls and one boy all living. She professed a hope in Christ and joined the church while young and lived a devoted Christian until death. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and was kind to all she met. She fed the hungry and her friends were numbered by the score. She met everyone with a smile. In her passing out, Blue Ridge church has lost a faithful member, the children a loving mother, and the community a kind neighbor, but we believe our loss is her eternal gain. -- F. Phillips
Flora B. Walsh Beshears.
Mrs. Flora B. Beshears, beloved daughter of W. C. And Julia Walsh was born Feb. 16, 1903, was married to Edward Beshears April 2, 1922, was coverted to Christ in 1921, joined the church at Blue Ridge and lived a devoted member until death, on Wednesday morning Feb. 9, 1927, at near 7 o'clock called her home.
She spoke often of death, she said she was willing and ready to go, and often asked God if it be his will to take her out of her suffering to dwell with Him in the beautiful home of the soul.
Parents have lost a much loved daughter, sisters and brothe a loving sister, husband a dutiful and loving wife, little son a precious mother, the church and Sunday school a devoted Christian worker, but "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord."
Watson--Mrs. Puah (Fletcher) Watson, daughter of the late J. C. And Maryan Fletcher, was born March 2, 1879; died April 14, 1929, age 50 yrs 1 month and 12 days.
Married to F. M. Watson July 24, 1901, and to this union were born seven children, all living. S. M. & L. H. Watson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Adelia Harless, Purlear, N.C., Mrs. Leah Greer, M. F., Marie and Burl Watson, all of Beng, N.C.
She joined Blue Ridge church over 20 years ago and was a consistent member till death. She leaves six dear sisters and 3 brothers and many kind friends and relatives that are joined with husband and children in mourning the loss of one so kind and good as was poor Puah in her life time.
Parsons--Edna Mash Parsons was born April 4, 1898, died August 13, 1929, age 31 years 4 months and 9 days.
She was married to Vander Parsons. To this union were born 5 children, 4 of whom are still living. She professed a hope in Christ and joined the church at Piney Ridge and lived a consistent member till death. She leaves a host of friends to mourn her loss, but our loss we trust is her eternal gain.
Shepheard--Nancy Shepheard whose maiden name was Perry, was born April 10, 1847; died November 9, 1928, age 80 years, 11 months and 29 days. She was married to Levi Shepheard and unto their union were born 11 children, 3 havve gone on before her. Three months and 6 das quickly past along when death called for her oldest son. Then Bro. Henry Shepheard was called to go to meet mother on that bright eternal shore.
The sister professed a hope in Christ early in life, and joined Mt. Olive church, was bapitzed by Elder John Adams and afterwards joined in with Friendship church Jan. 25, 1907, and there lived faithful until death. Her burial service was conducted by Elder J. T. Royal at her own request. She was a kind mother and faithful in filling her seat in church and we believe she is resting in that sweet bye and bye.
Wyatt- Mrs. Annie Wyatt, daughter of D. E. Dancy, was born Jan. 17, 1869. She joined the church at Zion July 29, 1918, and lived a devoted member until death. She died Sept. 28, 1928, aged 59 years 8 months, 5 days. Husband and children, wife and mother is gone from yon to be with you on earth no more but prepare to meet her on the golden shore.
Dearest Annie, how We miss her since she's gone from us away gone away to live with Jesus in that land of endless day. Our hearts are sad, our days are lonely since her voice we hear no more. But we hope to meet sister Annie on that happy shore. Her eyes are closed in death, her lonely form lies in the tomb to sleep in Jesus--blessed sleep--until the resurrection morn.
Griffin--Bro. Patton Griffin was born July 9, 1858; departed this life April 5, 1929, aged 71 years 8 months and 25 days. He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Baptist Church by Big Ivey several years ago. He remained a consistent member until death. He was loved by all who knew him. He was ever mindful of others, visiting the sick, speaking kind words to all he met. He leaves a wife and several children and a host of friends to mourn his loss, but we hope our loss is his eternal gain.
Miller -- Mrs. Annie Miller wife of Nathan Miller of Vannoy, passed away at her home Friday evening at 2 o'clock.,P> She was the daughter of O. D. Dancy who has gone on before. She was 79 years 7 montsh and 7 days old at her death June 14, 1929. She was a member of Zion church. She was the mother of 9 children 7 living. Two children and her husband had preceded her to the grave several years ago. She was a good wife, and loving mother and a faithful member of the church. There is a vacant place in her home that cannot be filled for there is nothing that can mar the purity of a mother's love.
Children, do not grieve for mother, for she is only waiting for you in that happy home where parting is no more. Written by one who sincerely loved her -- Nannie Dancy.
Haynes -- Mrs. Sarah Haynes, daughter of Jordan and Nancy Wyatt, age about 45 years. She was married to Isaac Haynes, Apr. 17, 1906. To this union were born 8 children, one died in infancy, 7 are left to mourn their loss, but we hope their loss is her eternal gain. So husband and children, try to prepare to meet wife and mother. She joined the church at Zion 11 years ago and lived faithful till death called her away June 15, 1929. Written by her sister -- Bessie Ashley.
Mrs. Julia Mash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Severt was about 50 years of age.
She was married to Ham Mash and to this union were born 12 children, 9 are living, three had preceded her to the grave.
She joined Piney Ridge church and lived faithful till God called her home January 2, 1930. Funeral service was held by Elder Lee Miller at Piney Ridge church.
John Martin Parsons was born Oct. 16, 1870, died Dec. 7, 1929, making his stay on earth 59 years 9 months, 14 days.
He was married to Daney Holderway. To this union were born 6 children all still living.
He professed a hope in Christ and joined the church at Blue Ridge Baptist church in early life and lived a consistent member until death.
He was greatly afflicted for many years prior to his death but he bore it all with much patience. He was never found grumbling because of his sickness.
We feel that poor Martin is not dead--just asleep in Jesus.

William P. Phillips born Aug. 7, 1843, married to Mary Ann Powell, Dec. 1865, departed this life March 27, 1933, making his stay on earth 89 years 6 months and 20 days.
He joined Yellow Hill Baptist church in 1869, later moved his membership to Blue Ridge Baptist church where he remained a consistent and devoted member until death.
He leaves an aged wife, 6 daughters and one son, and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss but we feel assured that our loss is his eternal gain.
So children, companion and friends, weep not for father and husband, but let us all prepared to meet him.
Franklin Alexander Wyatt was born June 16th, 1874 departed this life Feb. 28, 1933, making his stay on earth 58 years 8 mos., 12 days.
He was married to Pliner Woodie and to this union were born 13 children - 9 boys and 4 girls, of whom all are living save one which has gone on before.
Bro. Alex joined the Union Baptist Church at Poplar Cove twenty seven years ago and there remained a faithful member until death. So wife and children live a life so that you can meet husband and father after death.
Dear Alex will be missed by his church and community and that his departure was a distinct shock to the surroundings no one denies.
So let us all be prepared for the summons of death surely doth awaits us all. -- Bessie Ashley
