New River Notes — Complete

January 21, 2014

After about two years of work we have completed a major upgrade to New River Notes. On January 21, 2014 we switched in the last of the updated files and final page revisions.

In January 2013 we introduced the new site layout but because there were many pages left to do there was a big red Under Construction on the front page. Calvin Wiles Cemetery

Grayson County, Virginia

Location: Shippys Branch

Directions: This cemetery is about a quarter mile south of Highlands Parkway (US 58) on the west side of Shippys Branch Road (Rt 742). From Volney travel about 6.2 miles west on Highlands Parkway and then south on Shippys Branch Road.

GPS Coordinates: N36.6075 W81.4686

Surveyed by: June 12, 2003 by Jeff Weaver and Dave Reedy.

Comments: This cemetery is in very bad shape, no stones are standing. Two markers were found on investigation, and the property owners told us that there were nine graves in this cemetery, but they only knew of the two head stones. A large pine tree had recently fallen in this cemetery. The property owners were in the process of cleaning up the debris. The cemetery is not fenced. Info from Paul Herndon’s files also included.
