New River Notes — Complete

January 21, 2014

After about two years of work we have completed a major upgrade to New River Notes. On January 21, 2014 we switched in the last of the updated files and final page revisions.

In January 2013 we introduced the new site layout but because there were many pages left to do there was a big red Under Construction on the front page. A year later we've finished all of the pages that were on the original site. Construction is complete. We have a great looking site full of material to help you in your research and possibly entertain you.

New River Notes, a leading genealogy resource for the New River Valley of North Carolina and Virginia, launched its new look website today.

new river valley mapNew River Notes was originally launched in 1998 by Jeffrey C. Weaver providing New River Valley researchers with a new wealth of information and that tradition is continued today by the Grayson County, Virginia Heritage Foundation, Inc.

Senter Family Cemetery

Grayson County, Virginia

Location: Mouth of Wilson

Directions: From the junction of Jefferson Hwy (SR 16) and Wilson Hwy (US 58) at Mouth of Wilson, go west on Jefferson Hwy towards North Carolina. Cross bridge over Big Wilson Creek and continue approximately 1/2 mile. The cemetery is on the right approximately 1000 ft off the road on the ridge finger, among a Christmas tree farm. It is not visible from the road.

Comments: Cemetery fenced, overgrown, monuments need cleaning. There are some 6 replacement monuments in this cemetery a/o 1995. In aerial photography in 2007 there appears to be a driveway leading up to a house that is next to the cemetery.

SENTER, Drury, Rev. [25 Sep 1788] [10 Jan 1853] concrete base, marker is either buried or missing. [Senter Family web site shows inscription as: "Rev. Drury Senter died Jan 10th 1855 aged 64 years 3 mo & 16 days." He was a minister of the Regular Baptist Church about 38 years and a successful Preacher of his day and died in the triumphs of faith.]
SENTER, Polly [21 Dec 1793] 9 Dec 1855 aged 61 yrs __ months 18 days. [nee McClure; Senter Family web site lists the death date as 9 Dec 1853.]

SENTER, Kenny M. [16 Jan] 1856 1943 [Kenneth Monroe, oldest s/o Calvin and Rosa Senter]; This is the same style and apparent vintage as the replacement markers in this cemetery. All appear to have been produced about the same time, as weathering, staining and mold growths are similar.
