The American Civil War
in Alleghany County, North Carolina, and
Ashe County, North Carolina

No event in American
history has affected so
many people as the American Civil War. Additionally, no other war has
generated so much
historical or genealogical research. The following list gives abstracts
of service records for
soldiers
from Alleghany and Ashe County, North Carolina. These records are not
the entire service file,
but
rather what I considered the important portions of them. It is also not
complete, but as near as I
have
been able to determine. If you have additional information, I would
love to hear from you.

Also, it appears that only one Civil War soldier from Ashe or Alleghany
County wrote a book
about his experiences--W. H. Younce. His book,
Adventures
of a Conscript is online for your
enjoyment.
