Since 1998 - Historical and Genealogical Resources
for the Upper New River Valley of North Carolina and Virginia
The Larkin Clay Post No. 69, American Legion, was organized in 1919, with fifteen members. While a few years the organization has not shown the increase in members it should, we are now glad to report that the Legion is now on a sound footing and is increasing steadily both in numbers and spirit, until at this time our membership shows a gain of nearly 100 per cent.
The Post has aided five veterans in getting compensation claims adjusted and hospital treatment, and in 1921 twenty-one dollars was raised and paid to the Foreign Graves Endowment Fund.
The officers and members for the year 1924 are as follows:
Officers: W. C. Cook, P. C.; N. L. Beville, V. C.; C. R. Stokes, Adj.; T. A. Moore, F. O. and Service Officer; L. H. Watkins, Sergeant-at-Arms; C. G. Robison, Historian.
Executive Committee: N. L. Beville, L. S. Epes, G. H. Epes, G. R. Stokes, A. S. Rowlett.
